One day Drawing Project

we have been set the task of drawing 30 drawings in one day, the first half of the day was observational drawings and the second half were drawings from our imagination. What a task. Sprung on us. with no drawing utensils. Still i made do, but im not happy with the out come. if only i was more papered.

here is the list of the drawings we had to create.

Part 1: Observational Drawings 10.30am - 12.30pm

Drawing 1: Portrait of the person standing next to you. Duration: 5 minutes

Drawing 2: Portrait of the person standing next to you but using your other hand. Duration: 4 minutes

Drawing 3: Look down and draw your shoes. Then draw an x-ray vision of your feet on top of the other drawing using a different utensil. Duration: 2 x 3 minutes. 

Drawing 4. Pick a random item out of your bag or pocket. Draw it using your wrong hand. 
Duration: 4 minutes

Drawing 5. Two volunteers who requested a break were asked to circumnavigate the central desk, one pushing the other in a wheelie chair. Every one drew them. Duration: 1 minute.

Drawing 6. The volunteers switched positions and did the same again. Duration: 1 minute.

Drawing 7. Draw your hand opening and closing. Duration: 3 minutes.

Drawing 8. Draw your hand opening and closing but with the opposite hand. Duration: 3 minutes.

Drawing 9. Draw an entire font (all 26 letters of the alphabet.) Plus the numbers 1-9 and 0 and any punctuation if you have time. Duration: 5 minutes.

20 minute Break

After the break the entire year were ushered down one end of the studio. Four volunteers, two male, two female were asked to come out and dance to music in the empty space.

Drawing 10. Standing In cramped impossible conditions, draw the four people dancing. 
Duration: 2 minutes

Drawing 11. Standing In cramped impossible conditions, draw the four people dancing, again. Duration: 3 minutes.

The four dancing volunteers were then asked to draw the entire crowd of eighty students who all danced for them. Another two people were asked to volunteer making three couples. They then had to dance as couples. 

Drawing 12. Draw all three couples dancing, plus the rest of the crowd, from above. Duration: 1 minute.

The couples all then rejoined the crowd for the final three drawings before lunch.

Drawing 13. Draw the crowd scene your standing in. Duration: 1 minute

Drawing 14. Turn and face the crowd and draw what you see: Duration: 1 minute.

Drawing 15. Draw a portrait of the person next to you in the crowd. Duration 1 minute.

Lunch Break: 12.45 pm - 1.45 pm

Part 2 : Imaginative / Illustrative Drawings

(Students were asked to swap utensils at regular intervals throughout the afternoon)

2.00pm - 4.00pm

Drawing 16. Draw your name exploding out of a volcano. Duration: 5 minutes

Drawing 17. Draw silence eating a noise-burger. Duration: 3 minutes

Drawing 18. Draw a self portrait eating a cactus. Duration: 3 minutes.

Drawing 19. Draw yourself as a swimsuit model ( two coloured drawing). Duration: 4 minutes

Drawing 20. In a three step sequence, draw yourself transforming into a moth. Duration: 5 minutes.

Drawing 21: Divide the paper into four sections. In top left draw a flying eyeball. Duration: 1 minute

(Each sheet was then passed on to three more students, three more times, who each drew a flying eyeball in a section, in a different pen, completing all four flying eyeball portraits, also in one minute each) 

Drawing 22. Martha the exploding chicken. Duration: 5 minutes

Drawing 23. A detailed view of a bank robbery. Duration: 6 minutes.

Drawing 24. E.T. and Elliot crashing on their BMX. Duration: 6 minutes

Drawing 25. Design and draw your own pair of trainers. Duration: 3 minutes

Drawing 26. A T.Rex eating either Pete or Ed. Duration: 4 minutes.

Drawing 27. Self portrait tucked up in bed with a ghost floating over you. Duration: 4 minutes

Drawing 28. Self portrait breaking out of a piggy bank. Duration: 2 minutes.

Drawing 29. A DLR train steams right through the studio obliterating everyone in its way. Duration: 3 minutes

Drawing 30. A giant canary attacking Canary Wharf. Duration: 4 minutes.
